ABOUT DPC

FAQs

What does DPC include? At Sojourn DPC, members pay a monthly membership. The membership fee includes physicals, chronic disease management for medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, and others. It also includes sick visits, accident injuries, as well as consultations for new conditions and concerns. With DPC there are no copays or per-visit fees. Some services such as skin biopsies, lab testing, stitches there is a little extra fee that is very affordable. If there is a fee, you will be informed before how much it is. For many things like medication refills, the providers and patients can often communicate with secure messaging, telehealth visit, by phone or email.

DPC vs Concierge? Direct Primary Care and Concierge medicine are similar, but not the same. There are two main distinctions. One is the annual fee for concierge practices are typically over $2500. Direct Primary Care memberships vary, but at Sojourn Medical, it's $30 to $85 per month depending on patient's age. The second difference is that concierge practices collect a copay AND also bills your insurance at each visit in addition to the annual retainer fee. In contrast, a DPC practice patient pays no office copay. Pricing for any additional costs (like stitches, skin biopsies) is made clear at the time of service. There are also discounted cash price labs, or X-rays. DPC practices have concierge level service at a much lower price, making it a perfect choice whether you have no insurance or great employer sponsored health insurance.

Is Sojourn DPC for individuals or families? Both! Sojourn has fantastic medical care for low prices for individuals AND families.

Will HSAs pay for monthly memberships and other fees? HSAs can pay for stitches, imaging, and lab tests; however, we advise you to talk to your accountant as to whether an HSA can be used to pay for monthly membership fees. At this time, it can be interpreted multiple ways, and the leaders in the DPC community are working to clarify this.

I have insurance, can I use it in DPC? DPC is so affordable because it cuts out all the red tape of insurance by not using it. DPC is a great complement to insurance because we cover most medical and urgent care needs, but insurance can be helpful for large expenses like surgeries, severe traumas, or hospitalizations. Although we do offer significantly discounted lab tests and imaging, in some cases up to 90%, you are free to use your insurance to pay for them if you choose to do so.

Are labs included? We have resources that offer discounted cash prices on lab tests. If you choose, you can always use insurance if able.

What are the clinic hours? Sojourn wants to give the best patient care, so we are available outside of the typical clinic hours. This is done with secure messaging, calls, telehealth, and emails.

What if I need to see a specialist? Because we are not associated with any insurance, we can discuss your needs and have greater flexibility to refer you to the best specialist for your unique circumstances to do what is best for you the patient.

If I have Medicare, can I still use DPC? At this time, the law prohibits Sojourn to treat those enrolled in Medicare. The leaders of the DPC movement are working to change that!
